Carice van Houten has suggested that the Red Woman, also known as the Marmite-like Melisandre, could make an appearance in the upcoming Game Of Thrones prequel series.

Whether you loved her or you hated her, Melisandre was an integral – if irritating – part of Game Of Thrones.

The Dutch actress portrayed the red priestess, who did her fair share of unforgivable acts (burning children, giving birth to an actual demon), and her life came to an end in the eighth and final season of the show.

Still, with a prequel in the works, could we see a young Melisandre on screen?

‘Who knows,’ Van Houten told Deadline. ‘I guess you could see a very young Melisandre or something like that.’

Teasing, she added: ‘That could be fun. But not in the shape of me. No one has contacted me about it.

‘There are so many great characters, but I personally would have loved to see more of Melisandre’s character.

There isn’t much known about Melisandre’s past.

What we know of her character is that she was born centuries before, as a slave in the land of Essos, in Asshai.

A priestess who worships the Lord of Light, she wears a necklace both as an article of her faith and as a way of hiding her ageing – as well as presumably prolonging her life.

Nobody knows exactly how old she is, so depending on when the prequel is set, she could look similar to the way she did in the HBO series.

Van Houten went on to reveal that though her character had many scenes of nudity, ‘it wasn’t [her] favourite thing in the world at all.’

She was also impressed with the way the writers killed off her character, adding: ‘It was graceful. I was very grateful to the writers for that. That whole episode was bombastic, but my death was like the final note of a symphony.’

Excitement for the prequel is mounting and the title of the spin-off appeared to have been leaked.

The GOT fansite Watchers on the Wall posted an exclusive image of a new logo for the proposed spin-off, which appears to have come from a production sheet.

The title reads Bloodmoon, though this is yet to be confirmed by HBO.

Although plot details are scarce at the moment, it has been confirmed that the series will be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Producers revealed the show will focus on events of the First Men, and the Long Night event, a period in the history of Westeros where night lasted for an entire generation.

Naomi Watts has been cast as a role in the upcoming series, and admitted her fears for the prequel off the back of its parent show.

‘Having just come off the last series, where the world was blowing up over it, everything was Game of Thrones related’, she told AP Entertainment.

‘All the advertising on TV, every article – everybody’s jumping on that bandwagon. So, it is scary.’

But she has faith in the show, and believes the fans ‘won’t be let down’.

‘I think they won’t be let down – it’s a great team of people they put together,’ she said.
