After we got our first look at Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in season eight, the countdown for Game of Thrones’ return has officially begun.
Naturally, all details of what’s in store for us when the final six episodes come crashing into our lives next year have been kept completely under wraps, but we have got the promise that The Night King and his army will be descending on Westeros for the biggest battle TV has ever seen.
With the odds currently swinging in the White Army’s favour, plenty of bloodshed and heartbreak is a given.
In fact, we’re not ready for how powerful the Night King really is, as a scene from season three has been somewhat overlooked.
Reddit user u/123batataz pointed out: ‘So I’m rewatching GoT and I’ve reached season 3 where the Nights watch are camping at Crasters Keep. This is the same episode where the mutiny happens. Craster says he’s fathered 99 sons and a lot more daughters.
‘If he sacrificed all his sons to the Night King, and from this we can deduce that there are around 99 white walkers prior to the later seasons where some are killed. That’s a lot of white walkers and in turn wights.
‘This could mean that next season we are going to see ALOT more walkers in action compared to eight grunts.’
‘Yep! I was actually thinking about this,’ agreed 123batataz. ‘If Craster didn’t sacrifice his children to the Night King then there would probably be a lot less wights. But then again the Night King could just control them instead of his walkers.’
And that all comes after a script leak appeared to reveal the true size of The Night King’s army, which, we can assure you, is so much bigger than you thought.
We’ve got chills. Actual chills….
In this week’s Entertainment Weekly, the magazine released first details of season eight, with the confirmation that tensions between Jon Snow and Sansa Stark will run through the cycle, which was also described as ‘bittersweet’.
What’s more, HBO bosses confirmed the final six Game of Thrones episodes were initially going to be split into three feature length films, but, sadly, they decided against it.
Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and HBO in 2019.
