Game Of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage may have hit the nail on the head by comparing the divisive final season as like a ‘bad break-up’ for fans.
The actor, who played Tyrion Lannister on the show, thinks that ultimately it was an impossible fight to win for showrunners Dave Benioff and D.B. Weiss because people had fallen for the series.
Speaking to the New Yorker, he said: ‘Well, everybody’s always going to have an opinion, and that means an ownership.
‘It’s like breaking up with somebody. They get upset.’
‘I can’t speak for everybody, but my feeling is they didn’t want it to end, so a lot of people got angry,’ Peter concluded.
‘I feel like what [the showrunners] Dave [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] did was extraordinary.’
Season eight’s finale proved to split viewers so much that millions of fans signed a petition demanding it be remade… not that it worked.
Tormund actor Kristopher Hivju has since admitted an alternative ending was shot, but it will be never see the light of day.
It was also snubbed from this year’s Golden Globes – with Kit Harington becoming the only member of the cast or crew to receive a nomination for his work as Jon Snow.
But the SAG Awards were slightly nicer, putting them up for three nods in their shortlist.
Game Of Thrones season 1-8 is available now on NOW TV, DVD and Blu-Ray.
