Filming for the first Game of Thrones spin-off is reportedly going ahead as planned.
Temporarily dubbed ‘Bloodmoon’, the HBO prequel series starring Naomi Watts has been shooting in Belfast for the last two weeks, sources allege.
It appears that the GoT prequel is, therefore, coming to save us from the impending doom of Season 8, Episode 6, in spite of claims that only a pilot would be released to test the waters.
A source told The Sun on Monday night: ‘Thrones fans will be delighted to hear things have started with the prequel.
‘Those working on the set in Belfast are referring to the series as Bloodmoon.
‘Producers have put together a stellar cast and it will be must-watch telly for anyone who loves Game Of Thrones.’
He explained: ‘We’re just trying to be really thoughtful about how to expand this universe if it makes sense, and not, like I said, kill the golden goose.’
Greenblatt confirmed that a pilot was in production, nonetheless, and Naomi’s casting was announced last October.
The channel has yet to officially confirm the name of the prequel but author George R.R. Martin seemed to suggest last year that it would be called The Long Night.
Oscar-nominee Naomi is set to be one of the lead actors in the series, alongside Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie and Denise Gough.
It will be set thousands of years before Game of Thrones and will document Westeros following the Age of Heroes.
This will include the true origins of the White Walkers, as well as the various mysteries and legends that exist in the land.
The first spin-off to GoT is expected to fill the void that will be left next week when the final episode of the eighth and final series is aired.
