During the red carpet event of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms before the season aired, Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays young Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, was posed with an interesting question. He was asked which Game of Thrones character, dead or alive, would his character form an alliance with. His instant, enthusiastic answer was ‘the dragons.’

A perfectly Targaryen answer

The exact words that Dexter used were,

“I would form an alliance with the dragons because who doesn’t wanna have an alliance with the dragons. If you have an alliance with dragons then you can fly to different places…I guess if you fly so fast around the world you can go back in time, forward in time, and then you can just burn everything. Yeah, dragons.”

The response perfectly captures Egg’s innate fascination with the legendary creatures. This is one of the traits that defines his arc in George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg and hints at his future obsession with restoring dragons to Westeros. While other characters might pick warriors, schemers, or allies like Brienne or Tyrion, Egg went straight for the ultimate fantasy power. The clip had gone viral on X, with fans loving the pure Targaryen energy. Some even pointed out the bittersweet foreshadowing of Summerhall.

What is Egg’s relation to the Tragedy at Summerhall?

The “Tragedy of Summerhall” was a catastrophic event that claimed the lives of several key Targaryens and nearly destroyed House Targaryen. King Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), obsessed with reviving dragons after centuries without them, orchestrated a ritual at his family’s summer castle, Summerhall. He believed a great fire, possibly involving wildfire combined with blood magic and dragon eggs could hatch new dragons.

The attempt went horribly wrong: a massive, uncontrollable blaze erupted, killing Aegon V, his son Prince Duncan the Small, his mentor knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and many others. The event still remains a mystery, with whispers of sorcery, prophecy, and betrayal still fueling speculation in Westeros.
