Actual director JJ Abrams has revealed he wants to get into bed with the Games of Thrones prequels, and apparently there is a god after all.
The 52-year-old filmmaker confessed his interest in working on the not-yet titled series in an interview alongside director Julius Avery.
When asked by MTV whether he’d be up for working on one of the Thrones prequels, JJ let his feelings be known by admitting: ‘I’d be honoured.’
Julius echoed his mate’s interest, adding: ‘Yeah, that would be awesome. Yeah, that would be great.’
The director, who’s behind the likes of Super 8, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Trek, said he was a fan of the show, adding: ‘I’m in awe of what they do and they make movies every episode.
‘I feel like the truth is I probably wouldn’t want to get involved and demystify the thing, I just like watching it from the outside in.
‘Anytime I hear anything about the behind the scenes of that show, I feel like I want them to stop talking about it because I love what they create.’
Earlier today, Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin explained that the prequel isn’t called The Long Night, after he tweeted just a few days ago that it was…
At the time, he wrote: ‘Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film.’
However, in a new blog post George announced that the prequel is unnamed, saying: ‘HBO has informed me that the Jane Goldman pilot is not (yet) titled THE LONG NIGHT.
‘That is certainly the title I prefer, but for the moment the pilot is still officially UNTITLED. So… mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa.’
While not much is yet known about the series, it has been confirmed that Naomi Watts has been cast as the show’s lead, alongside Polddark star Josh Whitehouse.
Game of Thrones season eight will arrive on HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
