Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) recently spoke to Glamour about her beauty routine, and answered a question we had been wondering for a while: why did she stop dying her blonde hair red on Game of Thrones? She did that for the first six seasons of the show, but for season 7, she wore a wig.

As it ends up, it was a matter of life or (hair) death:

A few years ago I was trying to go back from red to blonde, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for Game of Thrones. They wouldn’t let me dye it back red or my hair would’ve fallen out.

As Turner clarified on Twitter, it wasn’t the red Game of Thrones dye that put her hair at risk; it was the blonde dye she used for another role, probably as the lead in the movie Josie. In any case, her issues with hair dye run deep. Back in the early days of the show, when she was 13, Turner found that the fading red color was turning a “mousey brown” around the same time she decided to shape her own bangs. “It was a disaster,” she remembers. “I don’t know why I did it. I guess people were having bangs cut in and I thought, Fuck it. I’ll give it a go.”

Turner also talked about her close friendship with co-star Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), which has been far more consistent than her hair color. “Maisie is the most supportive person I know,” she said. “She and I are very open with each other and encourage each other to be healthy mentally.”

She’s one of the biggest champions of that. She’ll call up every day and be like, “Hey, you good today?” I know that’s not advice, but in a way, she’s telling me to look after myself—especially mental-health-wise. I think that’s the most important thing…Maisie and I have been through a lot together. We’ve grown up in this industry, and it can be taxing. I know her inside and out, and she knows me inside and out. It’s good to just check up on each other once in a while. We love each other.

Dawwww.

Finally, Turner talked about the most important subject of the day: her favorite emoji. “I use the love heart eyes 😍the most. Probably because I text my fiancé with that all the time, and I love him. Actually, if I had a real favorite, it’s the shit emoji 💩. It’s just funny. Apparently, it’s really a chocolate ice cream though! At least someone told me that.”

If you’ve forgotten, her fiancé is Joe Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, seen here dressed as Sansa in a candid moment:

Speaks for itself.
