A Game Of Thrones prequel has been given a working title from creator George RR Martin, pinning down when the show will take place.

We already know one Game Of Thrones spin-off is officially in production, helmed by Jane Goldman and set to take place in the Age Of Heroes thousands of years before the mainline show’s events.

Speaking to press at the Primetime Emmy Awards (via Reddit), the Song Of Fire And Ice author dropped some interesting details about progress on the show.

Martin said: ‘I’m not allowed to say too much about them or HBO will pull out all my fingernails, but one of the shows – working title The Long Night – has been greenlit to pilot.

‘Jane Goldman is the showrunner… They’re working on that one right now. I don’t know when they’ll actually start shooting, but that’s going forward. And meanwhile we have four others in various stages of development.’

The Long Night is a winter which lasted an entire generation, and represents the first war between the White Walkers and people of Westeros.

The conflict within the Long Night becomes known as the War For The Dawn, which saw the First Men and Children Of The Forest band together against their undead foes.

Interestingly, Martin also states there are still five shows in development – contrary to previous reports claiming a couple of the shows had been axed.

The Long Night is the only show (so far) which has officially gone into production, with no word on casting and filming expected to start next year.

Game Of Thrones season eight is set to be released in 2019.
