Game Of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has opened up on the controversy surrounding the final season’s reception, branding it all a little ‘silly’.

We’re with you there, buddy.

The star, who played Jaime Lannister in the HBO epic that wrapped in May, spoke on a panel at Con Of Thrones this weekend alongside Jerome Flynn (Bronn), Hannah Murray (Gilly) and Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel).

While many panned the ending of the eighth series, finding it just didn’t wrap things up how they envisioned the story going the past decade, Nikolaj addressed the work of showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff while also paying tribute to the dedicated fans.

He said: ‘We’re so lucky to be part of a show where people…care so much about it that you also get upset when it doesn’t go the way you want it to. And that’s fantastic, and I love it, and I love [laughs] that there was an online petition to have it rewritten.’

Remember that one? Fans were pleading with someone to step in and have the whole thing done again to reflect the more palatable ending they had in mind.

Nikolaj, whose character met his maker, alongside love and twin sister Cersei (Lena Headey), in the final moments, defended the show’s bosses.

‘The only thing I’ll say is that for anyone to imagine or to think that the two creators of this show are not the most passionate, the greatest, the most invested of all, and to for a second think that they didn’t spend the last 10 years thinking about how they were gonna end it, is kinda silly,’ he mused.

‘And also know that they too read the comments, and even though you sit on your own and go, ‘F*cking stupid writers! A**holes!’…they really, like everyone on Game of Thrones…and there are thousands, we worked our a**es off to make the best show we could for the ending.’

The fans still have a lot to look forward to, though, with production on the show’s prequel happening right.as.we.speak.

Naomi Watts will star in the series and gave us all a potential sneak peek at what her character will look like.

The actress shared a dressing room photo on her Instagram stories and some eagle-eyes fans via Decider noticed a brunette wig in the background leading many to believe she will don the look in the series.

In the photo, Watts is in a make-up chair in a trailer with a wig cap on with a certain other HBO show on the go, as she added the caption: ‘Perfect way to start a 5am work day!! #biglittlelies.’
