HBO has announced Game Of Thrones season eight will arrive in April 2019 with a trailer which takes us back to Ned Stark and King Joffrey.

Daenerys, Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister and more will be battling for the Iron Throne in the highly anticipated conclusion to HBO’s fantasy epic, which will undoubtedly be the biggest TV event of 2019.

A new trailer has been released in advance of the conclusion, taking us through the highlights of the past seven seasons including huge battles and er, Tommen’s suicide via window drop.

As the highlights play, the trailer reads: ‘Every battle. Every betrayal. Every alliance. Every risk. Every fight. Every sacrifice. Every oath. Every death is all #ForTheThrone.’

While there’s no new footage to dissect, it’s a nice hype-building reminder to binge watch the entire run all over again. Only five months to go!

The company announced the eighth and final season will be simulcast on both Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in April next year, with a more specific release date yet to be announced.

The April release date is perhaps what most fans were expecting, considering past seasons of the show have (aside from season seven) ritually debuted in that month.

Sky Atlantic are also ramping up anticipation by releasing special images from across the series, which recall key moments from a breadth of characters.

Details around the final season recently emerged via a cover on EW, which teased how the first episode will have plenty of callbacks to season one.

The anticipated battle against the White Walker army is also promising to be the biggest spectacle the series has delivered yet – which features in an episode directed by Miguel Sapochnik who helmed season six’s Battle Of The Bastards.
