Game Of Thrones star Isaac Hempstead Wright has criticised the ‘ridiculous’ petition calling for season eight to be remade entirely.

The petition gained traction earlier this week following the penultimate episode of the final season, and describes showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as ‘woefully incompetent’ writers.

It has surpassed 850,000 signatures, with many viewers unhappy with how certain characters arcs have developed and concluded in the final bow.

Isaac, who plays Bran Stark, has since responded to the petition, admitting how he’s taken it quite personally.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the petition, Isaac said: ‘It’s just absurd. I can’t even fathom it. It’s just ridiculous.

‘It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it. I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t. In my opinion, it’s a great ending.’

The actor goes onto defend the controversial ‘Mad Queen’ development of character Daenerys Targaryen, who decided to slaughter the innocent people of King’s Landing in the latest episode.

‘People have complained there wasn’t enough foreshadowing of that,’ Isaac said. ‘But time upon time, she’s demonstrated a capacity to be quite brutal. She’s waited years and years to get over to Westeros and take what is hers.

‘She’s been delayed. She’s had to fight an army of literal dead people. She nearly died. She’s lost Jorah (Iain Glen), Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and now the person she’s deeply in love with isn’t comfortable with her and he threatens the claim she’s had for years.

‘She’s sick of it. She’s p*ssed off and she’s lost her mind. I don’t think it’s some plot twist to be shocking for the sake of shocking. I think it’s a genuine character development.’

He also teased the upcoming finale, describing it as ‘a very clever way’ of typing up the entire show.

Jacob Anderson, who plays Grey Worm, also recently branded the petition as ‘insulting’ to the people and hard work dedicated to bringing season eight to life.

Game Of Thrones continues Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic. You can catch-up on episodes so far on NOW TV.
