Game of Thrones‘ Carice van Houten and The Crown star Lesley Manville headline the first shots from this year’s TV adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons.
Set to broadcast on Starz in the US from November 6, this series serves as a prequel to the classic 1782 novel (authored by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos), which itself was turned into a Hollywood movie in the late-80s by director Stephen Frears.
There’s also a teaser trailer to dig into, replete with lavish scenery and lustful aristocrats.

The tale of Dangerous Liaisons sweeps viewers back into the 18th century, where the passions of Alice Englert‘s Camille and Nicholas Denton’s Pascal Valmont take centre stage.
But as the former attempts to ascend the social ladder, the romantic games between them get increasingly sinister.
Van Houten portrays the noblewoman Jacqueline de Montrachet, Manville is Geneviève de Merteuil, Kosar Ali is Camille’s closest friend Victoire, and Paloma Faith is Florence de Régnier.

Three years on from her final, self-sacrificing march as The Red Woman in Thrones, van Houten still describes the character as a “mystery”.
“There are books, but I didn’t want to trust in those, so I stuck to the scripts. But every time I wanted to know something about what was going to happen, they couldn’t tell me much.
“So she was quite a bit of a mystery to me as well. I learned to enjoy not knowing,” the Dutch actress previously explained.
“I guess I would have been interested in learning about her past a little bit. But at the same time that’s what made her mysterious, that we only got little slivers of hints.”
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. House of the Dragon will premiere on August 21 in the US on HBO, and on August 22 in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
