Thought Viserion’s screech sounded familiar (Picture; HBO)

Viserion’s ear-piercing screech has still got Game of Thrones fans all shook up, but it turns out Daenerys’ late dragon’s cries are actually just the screams from drunk fans of the HBO epic.

During the chilling season seven finale, titled The Dragon and the Wolf, the Night King’s flame-breathing ice dragon blew down The Wall of Winterfell.

It’s now been revealed sound designer Paula Fairfield actually she gathered a group of Game of Thrones fans, ploughed them with booze and ‘asked them to record themselves screaming’.

Spilling all, one fan, who claims to be ‘one-fiftieth’ of the ice dragon, told Winter Is Coming: ‘[Paula’s] like, “Get drunk and weird with it,” and we’re like, “Done and done.” We just, like, took an evening, drank a fuck-ton of gin, and screamed our hearts out, and sent ’em off,’ the fan began.

‘And then she came and watched the finale with us, she never told us what it was for. And then when it was all over, she leaned over and was like, “You guys are the ice dragon.”’

She continued: ‘I had assumed we would be melting small folk or tortured small folk or small folk on fire… you get the idea. When the episode was over, I was confused because there were no small folk in the final scene.

‘Paula told me we were the dragon, and I lost it and just started texting my band mates, “I’M A MOTHA F*CKIN ICE DRAGON.”’

The mind-blowing bombshell comes after a script leak appeared to confirm the worst news: Viserion is an ice dragon.

Since the season seven finale was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award last month – one of Game of Thrones’ 22 nods this year alone – fans have noticed something in the script which wasn’t mentioned on screen.

‘He’s [the Night King] done the same thing to Viserion that he did to Craster’s sons. Only those were babies, and this is a dragon,’ the passage reads.

What did The Night King really do to Viserion? (Picture: HBO)

So, what does that all mean?

Well, Craster’s sons were revived as something much more dangerous than your average Wight; their icy blue eyes share a resemblance to The Night King’s and it was the deathly leader himself who threw the spear which delivered Viserion’s fatal blow, and thus, Daenerys’ beloved beast is almost certainly a winged White Walker.

Though, some sceptics are unconvinced and spotted a huge plot hole with one fan on Reddit snapping: ‘That doesn’t make any sense according to the show’s own rules, firstly the only character we see being reanimated into a White Walker was Craster’s son is ‘Oathkeeper’ and he was alive and well at that point.

‘Also the show made a huge point to show that it was a very specific ritual by the Walkers (at the lands of Always Winter?) while Viserion was brought back just near the lake, on top of that all the dead character that have been brought back have been Wights too.’

They went on: ‘Also. when we see Viserion attack the wall he clearly had holes in his wings and was rotting, which is a clearly distinct Wight feature not a White Walker one.’

Game of Thrones is expected to return to HBO and Sky Atlantic early next year.
