Filming on Game of Thrones Season 7 is off and running in Northern Ireland, which preparations for filming in Spain continue. ModExpor International, the agency HBO uses to cast extras in the region, recently put up a notice on its Facebook page.
Let’s hit the big points:
- This call is for people who will work on shooting locations in the Cáceres province of Spain. Game of Thrones will be shooting in three areas there. First, there’s the city of Cáceres itself, which looks like it would make a good stand-in for King’s Landing. Second, there’s the village of Malpartida. Specifically, we think the production will shoot at Los Barruecos, a beautiful seaside location.

- Finally, the production will shoot at Trujillo Castle.

- The casting call will take place in Malpartida, in the municipal sports hall, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on September 13 and 14. The extras will have to be available between November 14 and December 15, which gives us an idea of how long the show will be in this region.
- HBO is looking for people of all races. They should be in the age range of 18-50. No minors.
- They’re looking for men in good physical condition to play soldiers. Military experience is welcome.
- There’s a whole lot about hair here. Men can have short, medium, or long hair, while women should have long hair. Candidates with modern hairstyles will not be tolerated. No highlights, or people with wacky haircolors: blue, pink, green, and the like. (So they’re not casting characters from Tyrosh, then.) Men should be prepared to grow or cut their facial hair as needed.
- Naturally, they’re looking for locals. Also, no visible tattoos.
Not everyone who shows up on the 13th will get invited back for the second session on the 14th. ModExport will invite back 2400 men and 600 women. How many extras will make the final cut? It’s a mystery.

Considering the wide range of shooting locations in Cáceres province, ModExpor is probably casting for a variety of things. The call for soldiers who may have to grow their beards makes me think of Lannister guardsman in King’s Landing, while the call for soldiers who may have to cut their beards makes me think of Unsullied.
The notice also mentions that more casting calls are on the way, in Córdoba and Seville.
