At NYCC 2025, George R.R. Martin offered fans a glimpse into his dream crossover wishlist for HBO’s upcoming prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Set nearly a century before Game of Thrones, the show follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg in a dragon-less Westeros. “One of the key things about this era is there are no dragons,” Martin explained. “Any character with a dragon coming into this area would send ripples through the entire civilization of Westeros.”
Quick read:
- Martin says no dragons will appear in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
- He’d love to see knights like Jaime and gamblers like Tyrion.
- He’s still thinking about which characters could fit.
Martin’s Favorites: Dunk, Egg… and Maybe Jaime Lannister?
While Martin reaffirmed his love for Dunk and Egg—calling them “two favorites”—he also mused about other iconic characters. “It would be fun to have some other great knights from Westerosi history,” he said. Among those? Jaime Lannister, whose tournament prowess and swordsmanship could fit seamlessly into the series’ grounded tone. “Like entering tournaments, winning some of them, fighting some,” Martin added. Tyrion Lannister also got a shoutout: “Bet on him… come out winners or losers.”

No Dragons, Just Ripples of Possibility
Martin’s comments underscore the delicate balance of world-building in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. With dragons extinct in this timeline—thanks to events unfolding in House of the Dragon—the focus shifts to human drama, knightly honor, and political tension. “I have my favorites on all of the shows,” Martin said, “but I’ll have to mull this one over.”
Whether or not Jaime or Tyrion ever make a cameo, Martin’s playful speculation reminds fans that Westeros is vast—and its stories are far from finished.
