Daenerys Targaryen attacks a blocky, low-polygon King’s Landing in this awesome video that reimagines Game of Thrones as a PS1 game.
The first book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Game of Thrones, came out in 1996, during the heyday of Sony’s PlayStation video game console. Unfortunately, the book series didn’t get big enough fast enough for anyone to turn into in a game back then, but now that HBO’s Game of Thrones TV series has become a pop culture phenomenon, some fans are making up for lost time.
For instance, a developer named Anders Lundbjörk — who I just became a fan of — has posted a video showing what a PS1-era Game of Thrones game might have looked like. And I love it. Look, I was around for this era of video games, so I have a lot of nostalgia for blocky 3D character models, stilted voice acting, and chunky animation, and this video delivers on all fronts.
This game casts you in the role of a Lannister guard as Daenerys Targaryen torches King’s Landing from dragonback in “The Bells.” Watch below!
This could not be more perfect. I want to play it right now.
Of course, Game of Thrones has been adapted as a video game series since. Telltale made a line of story-heavy conversation-based games, an RPG called Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming, and more. And who knows what the future holds?
