The second episode of House of the Dragon is here, now with a stunning intro sequence and the iconic Game of Thrones theme music returning. Episode 2 gives a hint as to the pace of the series, with a time jump of about six months since the last episode. Confirmation of this occurs when Rhaenyra mentions to Alicent that it has been just half a year since her mother passed. Later in the episode, the Sea Snake also makes mention of it to King Viserys. A running theme of this episode is the father and daughter trying to come to terms with the death of the Queen. Though much time has passed since then, they are still dealing with the grief of her passing.

There are other more subtle indicators of the time that has passed. Daemon has fortified himself at Dragonstone with his Gold Cloaks by this time. He has also been able to begin stirring up trouble by this point. Corlys Velaryon mentions that the situation in the Stepstones is beginning to get out of hand. King Viserys has formed a deeper bond with Alicent, as they seem to have had multiple meetings.

The most telling indicator, however, is Rhaenyra’s willingness to prove herself as the heir to the throne. It’s evident that after the long passage of time since she was declared the heir, she is close to taking matters into her own hands despite the warnings of the King and his Small Council.

The series will likely continue to progress with more time jumps taking place, with some spanning much larger periods.
