George R.R. Martin is already loving Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon and has branded the upcoming series ‘terrific’.
It was revealed earlier this week that the upcoming HBO show, which is one of the most highly anticipated projects of 2022, had wrapped up filming.
The drama explores a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart around 300 years before the original series took place.
While an exact release date is yet to be revealed, Martin has teased there’s a lot to look forward to.
‘Exciting news out of London — I am informed that shooting has WRAPPED for the first season of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON,’ he penned on his blog.
Yes, all ten episodes. I have seen rough cuts of a few of them, and I’m loving them. Of course, a lot more work needs to be done. Special effects, color timing, score, all the post production work.’ (sic)
‘But the writing, the directing, the acting all look terrific,’ Martin continued.
‘I hope you will like them as much as I do. My hat is off to Ryan and Miguel and their team, and to our amazing cast.’
While Martin couldn’t confirm when House Of The Dragon will air, he hinted that fans could be waiting as a long as winter for the episodes.
‘So when will you get to see it, you ask?’ he wrote. ‘When will the dragons dance?
‘I wish I could tell you. Lots of work remains to be done, as I said, and covid makes planning difficult. This spring? Unlikely. Maybe summer? Could be. Fall? Who knows? You’ll know when we do.’
While full-blown trailers have not yet been released, bosses have shared an exciting teaser that offered a spine-chilling glimpse of a dramatic scene with Olivia Cooke attacking someone with a dagger.
Her character, Lady Alicent Hightower, will be introduced as the daughter of the Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who has connections with the monarch’s inner circle in King’s landing.
The cast will also star former Doctor Who icon Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Paddy Considine as members of the ruling Targaryen clan.
Other actors joining House of the Dragon are Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Col.
House Of The Dragon will air later this year on HBO.
