Game of Thrones spin-off House Of the Dragon officially has a trailer, with the Targaryen clan about to make an explosive return.
Matt Smith voices the ominous new teaser for the spin-off which is set 200 years before the ‘fall of the throne’ in the wildly popular series.
Matt’s Prince Daemon is seen walking with a lit torch, before saying: ‘Gods. Kings. Fire. And blood’.
He encounters Emma D’Arcy’s character, a young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, with the pair looking every bit the part with flowing blonde locks and regal garb.
The new series clearly going to be just as action-packed as the original, with the characters seen jousting, sword-fighting, and quite literally playing with fire.
‘200 years before the fall of the throne, a dynasty reigned,’ the trailer teases, as Matt declares: ‘Dreams didn’t make us kings. Dragons did.’
Alongside the trailer, HBO tweeted: ‘Gods. Kings. Fire. Blood. @HouseOfDragon is coming to HBO Max in 2022. #HouseoftheDragon.’
We’re not prepared in the slightest.
Fans have previously been given some glimpses into filming, with a possible death scene for Matt’s character.
Also starring in House of the Dragon, which is due to premiere next year, are Paddy Considine, who plays King Viserys I Targaryen, Emma, who plays Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen; Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King; and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Otto’s daughter.
Casey Bloys, content chief for HBO and HBO Max, recently spoke out on the series, appearing confident that it will delight fans of George RR Martin’s fictional world.
‘It looks spectacular,’ he remarked, adding that the cast that showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal ‘have put together looks good’.
As for David Benioff and DB Weiss, who created the TV adaptation of Game of Thrones, Casey said they ‘have been entirely hands off’, as ‘they’re off working at Netflix’.
House of the Dragon will be released on HBO Max in 2022.
