2.479 million viewers tuned in to the cable broadcast of the show. Additionally, the first season averaged 29 million viewers per episode across all platforms as of Sept. 20. That being said, The Princess and the Queen was a pivotal episode for House of the Dragon as it signified a ten-year time jump. This resulted in the casting of new actors in major roles. The most recent episode introduced two new actresses playing the older versions of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Lady Alicent Hightower. While Milly Alcock and Emily Carey were both fan favorites for their work in the first five episodes, it’s promising that the show was able to retain viewership after making the change. Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy did a great job in their respective roles. It’ll be interesting to see how they develop their characters over the course of the season.
