House of The Dragon’s James Norton joins The Beatles biopic as Brian Epstein

James Norton, known for his role in House of the Dragon, has been cast as Brian Epstein in Sam Mendes’ ambitious four-film Beatles biopic. Norton joins an all-star ensemble including Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. The series, titled ‘The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event,’ is set to premiere in April 2028.

The Fifth Beatle: Norton’s Pivotal Role

Brian Epstein discovered the Beatles in 1961 during a lunchtime performance at Liverpool’s Cavern Club and transformed them from a local club act into a global phenomenon. Often referred to as “the fifth Beatle,” Epstein remained integral to their success until his untimely death in 1967 at age 32. Given his crucial role, Norton is expected to appear in all four films despite each focusing on a different band member’s perspective.

From Westeros to Liverpool: Norton’s Latest Transformation

Norton recently wrapped production on House of the Dragon Season 3 and confirmed his Beatles casting via Instagram with a simple “Brian” caption and heart emoji. This marks Norton’s second major musical biography role, having previously appeared in ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ as Chris Blackwell. The unprecedented project represents the first time The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd. have officially approved their life stories and music for scripted films, with Sony Pictures both distributing and financing the ambitious undertaking.
