TV Guide Magazine has a new spread all about the final season of Game of Thrones, with interviews aplenty. There’s lots of hype about season 8 in there (Showrunner David Benioff: “The scope of this [final] season definitely exceeds anything we’ve attempted before.”), but one of the most interesting parts involves cast and crew members sounding off about how characters will react when and if find out that Jon Snow is not Ned Stark’s bastard son but in fact Daenerys’ nephew and the heir to the Iron Throne.

In short, things could get complicated.

“From a dramatic standpoint, it makes things interesting,” said showrunner Dan Weiss, “because the story is no longer about who Jon’s parents are. It’s about what happens when Jon finds out.”

Since the show began, the big question was, ‘Who are Jon Snow’s parents?’ Now we know they’re Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. The question now becomes, ‘What’s gonna happen when people find out?’ According to Harington, Jon’s honor could get him in trouble. “He cannot lie,” Harington said. “Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him.”

The “he cannot lie” bit is telling, because it makes it sound like once Jon (inevitably) learns of his parentage from Bran and Sam, he’ll be compelled to tell Daenerys, no matter the cost. And as Emilia Clarke explains, that could cause a problem:

Daenerys’s lifelong dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne. She truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.

Does this mean their relationship will be fractured beyond repair once the truth is revealed? We’ll have to wait until April to find out.
