It was February 2020, and news of the coronavirus causing lockdowns around the world was running rampant. And then there was Tom Cruise, who found himself stuck in Venice as production on Mission: Impossible 7 shut down. It was just the start of the many, many delays that this movie would face.

We’re now in 2022, and the movie has been delayed yet again, along with the subsequent eighth film, according to Deadline. For now, it looks like Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 have been delayed to 2023 and 2024 respectively.

So for a movie that has been coming for quite some time, what the heck is taking so long?

Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 face delays…once again

The seventh Mission: Impossible film was supposed to release in July 2021, then in November 2021, then May 2022, then September 2022. And now, it’s been scheduled for July 14, 2023. But who knows if that will change again?

Tom Cruise has gotten accustomed to delays on his other big feature: Top Gun: Maverick has also been delayed multiple times. At this point, Cruise hasn’t had a movie in the theaters since 2018, when the last Mission: Impossible film came out. It’s wild to think there has been such a Tom Cruise-less box office these last few years, but hopefully that will change next year.

Hopefully.
