Netflix is working on a new comedy that has been written and produced by Game of Thrones creator DB Weiss, and executive produced by fellow Thrones creator David Benioff.

Titled Metal Lords, the story focuses on some high school kids who decide to start a heavy metal band, despite no-one at the school caring at all about heavy metal, except for them.

Casting for the main three characters has been completed, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that It Chapters One and Two star Jaeden Martell, last year’s Emma star Isis Hainsworth, and newcomer Adrian Greensmith will play the leads.

Metal Lords will come out later this year and is the first project as part of David Benioff and DB Weiss’ development deal with Netflix.

One of the other projects the duo are working on for Netflix, an adaptation of The Three-Body Problem, has come under fire from American politicians, who claim that it “normalises” the controversial actions of the Chinese government.

It’s not the first project of theirs to court a backlash (and we don’t mean because people disliking how Game of Thrones season 8 turned out). The duo were developing a series called Confederate in which slavery was still legal in America, but it was canned because of the controversy.

Meanwhile, the pair are working with Hugh Jackman on another series for Netflix, although he may or may not star in it.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
