In a fun and light-hearted interview moment with Fandom, James Norton (Ormund Hightower) addressed one of the most talked-about details from House of the Dragon Season 3: Daeron Targaryen’s noticeably dark/auburn/red hair.

When asked about the change from Daeron’s typical platinum Targaryen locks, Norton playfully responded that he wasn’t entirely sure if Ormund had it dyed or if it was some kind of “swap.”

Quick read:

  • James Norton doesn’t know if Daeron’s hair was dyed by Ormund or not
  • He calls this a nice speculation by the fans but didn’t confirm anything
  • He is loving the “hairdresser” memes

He added with a smile:

“I don’t know if he dyed his hair or if it was a swap or what that… but I mean, look, the more sort of playful, delicious… there has been reaction. He says openly to Daeron, ‘Your… that, like, part of him is a savage.’ But it’s a nice piece of speculation.”

Why fans are calling Ormund a “hairdresser”

The joke stems from a major plot point of Episode 3. In this episode, Ormund Hightower presents a fake Daeron (an impersonator) to Rhaenyra and the court, whose hair is the typical Targaryen silver.

However, the boy gives himself away and confesses everything in front of Rhaenyra, who reveals his hair was bleached by Ormund. Stemming from this, fans are confused whether real Daeron’s dark hair have been bleached by Ormund too or not.

Hence, this image of the serious, fanatical Ormund Hightower fussing over hair dye has become a hilarious meme, with many calling him the ultimate “hairdresser of Oldtown.”

In another interview with TV Guide, James commented on the same question saying,

“It’s Ben’s [Evan Ainsworth] natural hair color—if Ormund dyed it or not, that’s still up in the air.”

A fun moment

The hair-dyeing gag has become one of the most memed moments of Season 3 so far. Fans love the contrast between Ormund’s serious, almost fascist-like ideology and the absurd practicality of dyeing a boy’s hair to pull off a political deception.

Whether Ormund was personally in the “salon” or just gave the order, James Norton’s playful refusal to confirm it has only fueled the jokes.
