While we all wait for the second season of House of the Dragon to premiere next year, all eyes are on HBO to see if they’ll still be releasing additional Game of Thrones spinoffs. As we shared earlier this month, it looks like the network might be cutting its lineup of shows, with eagle-eyed fans discovering potential evidence that The Sea Snake and 10,000 Ships have been shelved. Amid this, fans are still speculating when the Jon Snow spinoff (working title Snow) could come out, if it even ever will.
Considering the series still hasn’t officially been announced by HBO yet, we don’t see Snow coming out anytime soon. While George R.R. Martin has referenced the project on his blog, it was mostly just to say he’s met with Kit Harington’s team about it. Just because a series might be in early development doesn’t mean it’ll necessarily make it to screen. So for now, we continue to wait on any news.
But in the meantime, it’s fun to imagine what the Jon Snow spinoff could look like and what it’d be about. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the show would be a sequel series in their original reporting of the project back in June 2022, with Harington on board to reprise his role. No other cast members have been announced yet, nor has a synopsis been revealed, so fans are left theorizing.
See what a Jon Snow spinoff poster could look like
Ertaç Altınöz, one of the artists who worked on The Rise of the Dragon book, has been killing it with book cover imaginings, drawing up what the covers for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring could look like. More recently, he’s created a poster for the potential Jon Snow spinoff, putting the titular character in a very interesting position. Check it out:
If this was the official poster for the spinoff, we’d have so many questions. The most prominent detail in the art is probably Jon Snow‘s eyes. Though Bran is the only main character with warging abilities in the TV show, that’s not the case in the books. Jon and Arya actually both have the ability as well, leading to speculation that all the Stark kids with wolves may have been able to access it…depending on whether their animal companion still lives. Could a sequel series incorporate that for Jon? It’d certainly be cool!
It looks like Jon’s wearing typical Free Folk attire, and the top of the image seems to suggest he might be rocking a fur cloak with a wolf’s head attached. I love it! This fan art poster looks really awesome and I love what a dark tone it has.
As you’ll remember, Game of Thrones ends with Jon Snow being sent beyond the Wall again as punishment for killing Daenerys Targaryen. But now that the White Walkers have been defeated, what other threats will he face? I just hope the spinoff does the character justice if it ends up happening.
Is the Jon Snow show coming out on New Year’s Day 2024?
Another small detail about Altınöz’s art is the fact that there’s text saying “Streaming New Year’s Day” at the bottom. Of course, this is just an imagining of what a poster could look like, so we just want to be sure our readers know this spinoff is not coming out on New Year’s Day 2024. That’d be super exciting, but because the show isn’t announced nor has filming begun, that date is definitely out of the question.
So if your friends happen to see this poster on social media and mention to you how excited they are for the show to come out in January, you’ll have to be the bearer of bad news. It looks so real, I wouldn’t blame people for believing it!
