Kit Harington reportedly ‘takes pride’ in his decision to check himself into rehab, where he is seeking treatment for ‘stress and alcohol’ issues.
The Game of Thrones actor checked himself into the luxury wellness retreat Prive-Swiss in Connecticut almost a month ago, after reportedly turning to alcohol following the end of the hit HBO show which propelled his career.
According to a source, Kit, 32, has ‘nothing but pride for his decision’ to seek professional help and hopes that his move could encourage others who are battling personal issues.
The insider told Page Six: ‘If seeing Kit get help can help anyone struggling, that’s fantastic. There’s no shame at all to this.’
It’s said that Kit was ‘hit really hard’ by the end of Game of Thrones wrapping up last week after eight seasons.
Kit’s wife, Rose Leslie whom he met on the fantasy series, is said to be ‘extremely supportive’ of the actor and is expected to be reunited with him soon as she allegedly remains in the UK.
The source said: ‘Everyone close to him really wanted him to get some rest. Right now, he just needs peace and quiet.’
The Prive-Swiss Wellness Retreat costs $120,000 (£94,200) for a month-long stay and offers psychological coaching, cognitive behavioral therapy and meditation.
Kit has spokenly openly about his personal battles in recent months and admitted that he struggled when the show’s focus shifted heavily to his character, Jon Snow, in season six.
Speaking to Variety, Kit said: ‘My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon, when he died and came back. I really didn’t like the focus of the whole show coming onto Jon — even though it was invalidating my problem about being the weak link because things were about Jon..
‘When you become the cliffhanger of a TV show, and a TV show probably at the height of its power, the focus on you is f***ing terrifying.’
A spokesperson for Kit confirmed his rehab stint to Metro.co.uk, saying in a statement: ‘Kit has decided to utilise this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.’
