Game of Thrones stars are people, too, expect they’re famous and ride dragons and get awards. What are they up to?
To start, Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) will be honored by the British Academy Britannia Awards (BAFTA) on Friday, October 26 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. She will be presented with the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year.
And Jim Carrey’s getting an award, too, but if you’ve watched even five minutes of his new Showtime series Kidding you need an extra dose of Lexapro to make it through the rest of this article. Best to focus on the Mother of Dragons.
“Jim and Emilia are without question two incredibly inspiring and remarkable talents and we are delighted to be honoring them at this year’s ceremony,” said Kieran Breen, the Los Angeles Chairman for BAFTA. “Jim is a legend in the industry, bringing joy and laughter to audiences around the world through his unique award-winning performances. Emilia is a force to be reckoned with and has brought us one of the most beloved female characters in TV history.”
Speaking of awards, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin received one, too: The Retro Geffen Award.
“The Geffen is presented by the Israeli Society for Science Fiction and Fantasy every year at the ICon festival,” wrote one of Martin’s minions on the author’s Not a Blog. “We were unable to attend the festival, but George is grateful to receive this honored award from the Israeli Society. Thanks for helping us spread a bit of Westeros around the world!”
Moving on, Kit Harington is sticking to what he knows in his next project: Zog, a TV adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s 2010 kid’s book about a friendly but accident-prone dragon going to dragon school. Harington will play Ser Gadabout, a knight who battles the young dragon, but not in a bloody way.
Zog will air as a one-off Christmas special on BBC One.
