Among the plethora of Marvel shows that are slated to come to Disney+ in the coming years is Ironheart, a spiritual successor of sorts to Iron Man. In the comics, teenager Riri Williams engineers her own Iron Man-type suit in her MIT college dorm room, then goes out to fight bad guys. Although we don’t know for sure if the show is going to following the exact same storyline, we do know that it describes Riri Williams as “a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man,” so it sounds like it’ll be pretty faithful.

We already knew that the cast included Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams and Anthony Ramos in an unknown role. Now, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the show has just added This Is Us veteran Lyric Ross to the cast. Ross will play Riri Williams’ best friend.

Ironheart fills out its cast

The news that Ironheart has cast another central role bodes well for the production. The show has no release date currently, and while it was initially speculated that we’d see it in the latter half of 2022, that seems unlikely given that Marvel hasn’t even finished casting the thing yet.

Whenever Ironheart premieres, Riri Williams will make her MCU debut this year in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. How the young inventor will factor into the Black Panther sequel is unknown, but it should help get people interested in the Ironheart series.

“We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first. She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series,” Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed in an interview with ComicBook.com back in August.

Ironheart is a relatively new character; she was only introduced in the comics in 2016 after the Civil War II arc, which ended with Tony Stark in a coma. Williams crafted her Ironheart suit as a way to fill the void left by that hero being out of action. In the MCU, Stark sacrificed himself at the end of Avengers: Endgame to defeat the mad titan Thanos, which could set up Williams’ entry into the films just as effectively.
