At the end of Game of Thrones season 7, Jaime Lannister finally did what we’ve all been waiting for: he stuck up for what he believed was important and left his sister/lover Cersei. Will the break last? We won’t know until season 8 premieres. (Or until it leaks, always a possibility with this show.)
Instyle spoke to Coster-Waldau about what could be next for Jaime. While he doesn’t know everything about season 8 yet, he’s pretty sure that Jaime is headed north — he pledged to help Jon and Daenerys fight the White Walkers, after all, and the White Walkers are in the North. He also said that, should Jaime survive the trip, there’s one character he really wants to interact with: Tormund Giantsbane, everyone’s favorite red-headed wildling (alive category)! “That would be fun,” Coster-Waldau, referring to the possibility of hijinks between him, Tormund, and Brienne.
However, any hijinks are contingent on Tormund being alive in the first place, which isn’t certain. Last we saw, Tormund was on top of the Wall when Zombie Viserion brought a big chunk of it down. We still don’t know if he survived, whether by escaping to an intact section or miraculously living through a 700-foot fall. But Coster-Waldau is positive he’s alive. “I’m sure he is,” he said immediately after being asked. “I’m sure he is.”
Either he knows something we don’t, or he has a lot of faith for his costar! And for what it’s worth, not every cast member is as sure. For example, Rory McCann (the Hound) expressed some doubt when speaking to HuffPost. “He was on the Wall, wasn’t he? And shit kicked off with that dead dragon. I don’t know. I hope he’s all right because he was a bloody good laugh.”
Like all the other threads dangling at the end of season 7, we’ll have to wait for season 8 to tie them up. But we’re pulling for you, Tormund!
