We hope one day to be as exited about ANYTHING as Game of Thrones vet Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) is about Leeds United getting into the Premier League.

Last week, the Leeds United Football Club made it back into the Premier League, the top level of the English football league system, after 16 years on the outs. Fans were ecstatic, and possibly none more so than Game of Thrones veteran Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), who was so out-of-his-mind happy that he recited a poem in honor of Marcelo Bielsa, his enthusiasm having no way to escape him except in verse:

“You made history with Leeds!/Tonight you are immortal. Your name. Your style. Your deeds.” Now that’s a man who loves his footfall.

And Coster-Waldau has been chasing this moment for a long time. Here he is a couple years back on Jimmy Kimmel Live! talking about Azor Ahai, the warrior destined to save Westeros from eternal darkness. Naturally, he compares the legendary hero to Coach Bielsa and even gets the American crowd — who if they’re anything like me have only a passing knowledge of European football, if that — to chant his name:

I say again: that’s a man who loves his football.

More up to the minute, here’s Coster-Waldau signing his autograph at the Taormina Film Fest the other day. Let’s hope he was social distancing:

You know, as long as we’re talking about Game of Thrones veterans speaking in rhyme, enjoy this reminder of what a nice singing voice Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) has. This is her performing on stage in Breakfast at Tiffany’s years ago:

And finally, apropos of absolutely nothing, here’s Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane) with Will Ferrell:

Until next time.
