While the eighth and final season will be tying up loose ends in the world of Westeros, there is one character we are likely never to know the fate of – Tycho Nestoris.

You know Tycho Nestoris right? Works at the Iron Bank of Braavos? Looks suspiciously like someone from the League of Gentlemen? No? Oh. Well, it’s that guy.

Mark Gatiss, who plays him, recently confirmed to Shortlist that he won’t be making an appearance in the final season – despite featuring in seasons four, five and seven.

Mark is continuing to write and act in his numerous other projects, particularly for the BBC (Picture: Rex)

While the actor and comedian has moved on to bigger and better things, he wasn’t offered the opportunity to return to his role one more time. But he’s at least hopeful his character is living to see another day, despite all the bloodshed the show’s known for.

He told the mag: ‘I’m not in it, so I guess I survive. Although they might just mention offhand that I’ve had my head bitten off by a dragon off-screen or something.’

Not going to lie, Mark, but knowing Game of Thrones, that seems like the far more likely option.

With the premiere of the final season edging ever closer, superfans have been grabbing hold of anything and everything they can about the series to put the pieces together ahead of time.

And even the cast can’t help but leak a few little tidbits to keep us eager – as Sophie Turner has warned there is real trouble ahead.

Speaking to 1883 magazine, Turner revealed: ‘This season is bloodier than ever. It’s full of betrayal, full of war, full of danger.

‘That’s all I can say without giving too much away.’

HBO’s programming Chief Casey Bloys also spoke to Entertainment Weekly this week where he managed to spill a few small, albeit important, secrets about the looming conclusion to Game of Thrones.

‘I think it’s epic,’ he enthused. ‘I think fans are going to love it. I think it’s a fitting way for one of the greatest shows in the history of television to go out and that people are going to be very happy.

Game of Thrones returns in 2019.
