Outlander star Graham McTavish has been spotted on the House of The Dragon set, sparking rumours that he’s due to star as Harrold Westerling on the Game of Thrones prequel.
The actor, who is also known for his performances in the Hobbit films, has been linked with the HBO series after being seen in costume.
Fans on social media have since been speculating that he could be playing Harrold, a knight from House Westerling and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard under King Viserys.
As Reddit users pointed out, Graham was seen wearing similar colours and boots to Fabien Frankel who is playing Criston Cole and the same brown boots. As both Criston and Harrold are in the Kingsguard, it suggests that Graham could be stepping into the latter role.
The show is currently filming ahead of the 2022 release date, with crews setting to work in Cornwall.
While his involvement has yet to be officially announced by HBO, Graham confirmed he was in Cornwall recently after sharing a picture with his Instagram followers.
The character description of Harrold in casting states that the series regular is a ‘once powerful Knight and a successful military background so a man with presence and status.’
‘Given the responsibility to the King to watch over and guard the Princess. In the current regime, where widespread peace has led to complacency and indulgence, he feels something of a loss of purpose, but nevertheless serves the King with a fierce, if quiet, loyalty.’
Graham could be set to join the cast alongside Matt Smith who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of the king and heir to the throne. Emma D’Arcy also plays the king’s first-born child Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke is cast as Alicent Hightower, the daughter of the Hand of the King.
New official photos from the production were recently released, featuring several key cast members in full costume.
The upcoming fantasy series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, at the height of the reign of the House Targaryen in Westeros.
As well as playing Dwalin in the Hobbit films, Graham is known for his roles as Dougal Mackenzie in Outlander and The Saint of Killers in Preacher.
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Graham’s representatives for comment. HBO declined to comment when approached.
House of the Dragon will premiere on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in 2022.
