Our Humble Beginnings: The Den of Nerds started as the personal YouTube channel of our founder, Joshua Lucas. Josh is a comic book writer and editor, but more importantly, he’s a HUGE Nerd. He started making videos on June 15th 2016. The goal back then was to just talk about Nerdy things, but quickly Josh found that his interests had changed. Soon after, he formed a new vision for what The Den of Nerds could and should be.

The Changing State of Media: Media Is going through the most massive shift in the past hundred years. Everything is going digital, direct to market, and mobile. The best and worst part of this is that there are no more gatekeepers. Anyone and everyone can put their content out there and reach a mass audience. However, the new gatekeeper is the algorithm. In order to get stuff in front of people, certain practices are done which hurt quality. In this world, where established networks are now fighting for views against thousands of YouTube personalities and bloggers, ALL of these people have forgotten the most important part of this equation. That is the value for the end consumer. That is something we will NEVER do. How will we figure out how to add value to our audience? It’s simple; we’ll ACTUALLY interact with them and we’ll actually CARE.

Our Vision: We want to become the ESPN of Nerdy things, but obviously with some changes. We imagine a place and time where we have high quality and personalized content put out every day that serves Nerds around the world. We want to be hyper interactive with our viewers on Social Media and in person. Simply put, we exist to expand the fun in YOUR life! Becoming a major player in reporting, programming, and covering Nerdy things is how we plan to do that!

  1. I'm not so sure that Lor San Tekka actually lived near Rey, BB-8 started rolling away from the First Order attack at night time and when he finally reaches Rey it's day time and given that Rey has finished scavenging for the day it's probably not early morning so he was probably rolling from Lor San Tekkas place for hours and hours before he reached Rey. So I think Lor San Tekka and Rey both living on Jakku is actually a coincidence.

  2. I really want the Rey Palpatine theory to be true… I just now realized (when I said the words in my head) this would make her Empress Palpatine of the Galactic Empire😀… that's an interesting way to destroy the First Order, lol… suddenly an Imperial Heir pops up and Snoke is entirely illegitimate as a leader to the Imperials😂

  3. From a writer's perspective: Rey's desire for her parents is her major character flaw. It's what has kept her on Jakku her whole life, and it's what causes her to reject her "call" for heroism. She doesn't want glory, or even war, she just wants to be loved and belong to a family. So, as a writer, if I want to torture my characters and create angst, I would make her have NO parents. I would give her the fullest opposite of what she wants. Not a dead family, NO family. She's a lab baby grown in an artificial womb in a First Order lab. And her character arc would be learning to get over it and love the new family she has: Luke, Leia, Finn. It also contrasts with Kylo, who uses his blood relative Vader as a reason why he's so special and entitled. Think of the color red in the ads, and the title of Leia's novel: Bloodline. The idea of lineage versus individuality. That's something that exists in every SW movie. Also think of George Lucas' children, who are mostly adopted. The idea of "family" but not the traditional family. It's something that would resonate with kids who's parents are divorced, not biological, or abusive. Like: you are not defined by your blood relatives, your defined by the choices you make in your current life.

  4. Great live stream! I’m still keeping fingers crossed to get to participate in the livestream this Thursday! Thanks again Josh, James, Andrew for doing this series it’s helping kill the time until December! Do I get entered by sharing all these videos on Tumblr?

  5. There was at a time when I read about the daughter of Palpatine in the EU who was proposed to become a figurehead Empress as part of a negotiated deal with the Rebels to bring peace. It didn't work out.

  6. I like the theory a little but the parentage is key to it. She has light and darkness in her. Was one of her parents also a lightside user? Is her power so strong because both of her parents are force users? I think it was darth plagueis that was purposely created from two force user parents and his strength was multiplied due to this.
