If you’re like me, you’ve probably watched the newest teaser for Game of Thrones season 8 teaser — “Crypts of Winterfell” — about a thousand times. Why were those lines chosen? What does the blocking mean? Why isn’t Bran there, and what is the deal with those statues?

Concept artist Kieran Belshaw, who helped conceive several important scenes in season 7, mocked up the original ideas for those statues. He shared his artwork on his website, and they don’t always match exactly what ended up onscreen.

Let’s start with Jon Snow. Here’s Belshaw’s design

…and here’s how it actually turned out:

From King in the North to Old Man Wolverine, this one took a bit of a turn.

Next, here’s how Belshaw imagined Sansa’s statue:

However, when it came time for HBO’s prop department to do their part…

Why does her statue look like she’s wondering who just farted?

And here’s Belshaw’s concept for Arya:

And now here’s HBO’s stone rendering of Arya, looking like she was caught trying to steal Turkish Delight from the White Witch’s castle in Narnia:

Finally, for kicks, there’s Catelyn:

Actually, she turned out pretty much the same in the teaser:

I mean, would it have killed them to put Lady Stoneheart in the crypts? Oh well, I guess that zombie ship has sailed.

Game of Thrones season 8 drops on April 14.
