It’s been a minute since season 1 of Shadow and Bone hit Netflix last April, introducing viewers to the magical world of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse. The first season wove together the narrative from Bardugo’s novel Shadow and Bone with the characters from the Six of Crows duology to make an even more compelling story that went over well with longtime fans and newcomers alike.
With season 2 set to adapt the events of Sea and Storm and Six of Crows, it’s poised to be a huge leap forward for the series. News on Shadow and Bone has been relatively scarce these past few months while the series has been filming; the last big update was four months ago when we got info on a few more actors joining the lineup. It’s likely that Netflix will drop some kind of update during Geeked Week, which runs from June 6-10.
But until then, we do have another casting update, courtesy of Redanian Intelligence. This site specializes in news about The Witcher, but also has its ear to the ground for series like Shadow and Bone as well. It’s not an official announcement, but RI has a good enough track record that it’s worth talking about.
Shadow and Bone casts two more characters
Shadow and Bone has reportedly added two more actors to its roster. The first is Keir Charles (Flesh and Blood), who plays Colonel Raevsky. Raevsky is a minor character in the first Shadow and Bone book who is present when Alina first meets General Kirigan. He didn’t appear in season 1 of the show, which leads us to think that Raevsky’s role is likely being expanded for the upcoming season. Expect him to serve as a military leader in Ravka, almost certainly opposing our heroes. Although given some of the twists and turns ahead in season 2, who can say where his allegiances will land by the time the dust settles?
The other cast member Shadow and Bone has reportedly added is Tijan Saar as Shay. Most of Saar’s past credits are in plays like Macbeth and Grimeboy, but he’ll be making the leap to the screen in Shadow and Bone season 2. Shay is believed to be a new character created for the Netflix series.
Shadow and Bone is currently filming. We’ll be on the watch for updates.
