Protests against police violence and systematic racism following the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis on May 25, continued around the world this weekend, with hundreds of thousands taking to the streets to demonstrate. That includes Game of Thrones stars like Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), who was out with her husband Joe Jonas; click over a couple slides to see a video of Turner with protesters chanting “No justice, no peace” below:
And Joe Jonas uploaded a picture of them together:
And Turner isn’t the only Game of Thrones alum out there protesting. Kerry Ingram (Shireen Baratheon) was also on the march:
Richard Madden (Robb Stark), who joined protests against police violence last weekend in Santa Monica, but back again this weekend:
It’s great to see Game of Thrones stars lending their voices to this movement, but of course they’re not the only celebrities involved. Michael B. Jordan, who played Killmonger in Black Panther, gave a speech at a Los Angeles protest about the importance of diversity in Hollywood, and how black voices should be amplified:
And for The Last Kingdom fans in the audience, star Magnus Bruun (the Viking warlord Cnut) and his daughter turned out to protest in Copenhagen:
And there were plenty more notables besides, including Pink, Steph Curry, Cara Delevingne, Brad Pitt, Cedric the Entertainer, Jonah Hill, Zoe Kravitz, Ben Affleck, Ariana Grande, Machine Gun Kelly, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Paris Jackson, Nick Cannon, Tessa Thompson and Timothée Chalamet.
I love seeing influential people use their platforms to spread this important message, and I hope it results in real change; we’re seeing some genuine positive developments. But the real accolades go to the masses of people who continue to show up day after day and affirm that black lives matter.
