Warning: There are loads of spoilers for Game Of Thrones coming up.

The sixth and final series of Game Of Thrones has come under fire for abandoning storylines, destroying character arcs and questionable writing, with fans even demanding HBO recreate episode 5 with ‘more competent’ writers that David Benioff and DB Weiss.

But author and pal of George RR Martin, Stephen King, is having none of it.

Taking to Facebook, the It writer defended the show runner’s recent choices, particularly the decision to send Dany into full Mad Queen mode and set the entirety of King’s Landing on fire.

‘I’ve loved this last season of GoT, including Dani going bugsh*t all over King’s Landing,’ wrote Stephen. ‘There’s been a lot of negativity about the windup, but I think it’s just because people don’t want ANY ending. But you know what they say: All good things…’

He’s got a point. We really, really don’t want it to end.

However, not many people will agree with him on the rest of his opinion. The Bells is officially the worst slated Game Of Thrones episode of all time, with a rating just over 50% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

On the other hand, it’s also become the most watched. Whether that’s people who don’t usually watch it tuning in to find out what happens in the end or to see what everyone is complaining about remains to be seen.

There are only a couple of days to go until we know how Game Of Thrones ends for good, and there still seems to be a lot of loose ends to tie up. Unsurprisingly, the short trailer for the grand finale offers up little in the way of answers.

There’s still time – a whole 80 minutes, in fact – for David and DB to turn it all around and win back the favour of the fans, though many are unhopeful.

According to the 500,000-signature strong Change.org petition created encouraging HBO to remake a whole episode, viewers seem to think all is lost when it comes to the show runner’s ability to give the show the ending it deserves.

‘David Benioff and DB Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on,’ wrote the creator of the petition, Dylan D.

Don’t worry everyone. Like Stephen says, all good things must come to an end.

Surely that means all bad things do too?

Game Of Thrones continues on HBO and Sky Atlantic on Sunday. You can catch-up on episodes on NOW TV.
