While 2018 saw the end of Big Brother, Stacey Dooley become ‘a thing’ and the first ever female Doctor Who, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2019.
Over the next 12 months we’ll be sending some of our favourite shows on their way to be immortalised as box sets, but we’ll always be able to find some comfort in knowing that we were lucky to be alive when Gemma Collins appeared on Dancing on Ice.
So, as you look forward to the year ahead, here’s what monumental TV landmarks you’ll be talking about in 2019.
SuBo returns to audition for Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent: The Champions
Try not to freak out too much but Susan Boyle is back, guys.
The Britain’s Got Talent idol will be auditioning for Simon Cowell again – despite shifting 25 million albums and making a £25 million in the process – to fight it out against the most notorious Got Talent contestants from across the world to be crowned America’s Got Talent: The Champion.
Why America? Who knows.
The Big Bang Theory to end after 12 seasons and a few laughs here and there
The Big Bang Theory is the single most popular comedy on television, but have you ever met an actual fan? Apparently they’re out there. Somewhere.
Sheldon, Leonard, Penny and the rest of gang will be saying goodbye to us forever, although we’d be lying if we said we weren’t ready for it right now – even if the cast aren’t.
Game of Thrones will close with a bloodbath and, already, FML
We’ll need ‘therapy’ when Game of Thrones ends, according to the cast. So that’s something to look forward to…
After eight seasons across nine years, Game of Thrones will reach its conclusion in May 2019 following six feature-length episodes, which are inevitably going to be packed with deaths, incest and now we’re hearing giant apocalyptic spiders. Seriously, WTF did we just put ourselves through?
Cheryl jumps to the BBC on The Greatest Dancer
After her musical comeback was shredded to every inch of what could be its very short life, Cheryl is back to what she does best – sitting behind a desk being really charming and Geordie.
Will her critics be kind? Unlikely, but we really hope so.
Alice Morgan isn’t dead and she’s returning to Luther
Did anyone ever really think Alice was dead in Luther?
Absolutely not, but we’re still more excited about her return than finding a steaming McDonalds at the end of your bed on a hangover. Well, not quite, but it is genuinely exciting AF.
Gemma Collins memes will take over the world again during Dancing on Ice
Remember when you couldn’t look at your phone without Gemma Collins telling Gillian McKeith to ‘fuck off’?
So 2019 is basically going to be 2017 all over again as the actual GC is heading to the rink for Dancing on Ice and it’s inevitable we’ll be dining out on this for years to come.
Queen Meryl is starring in Big Little Lies
Meryl Streep is joining a cast which already boasts Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley and, really, what is life?
Based on the standalone novel by Liane Moriaty, Big Little Lies was initially intended for just one season, which we were fine with.
But if Queen Meryl thinks there should be more Big Little Lies then obviously there should be more Big Little Lies.
RuPaul is coming to the UK
Just for the sheer possibility of someone playing Gemma Collins in the Snatch Game, RuPaul’s Drag Race heading to the UK has already set 2019 up to be Bianca Del Rio levels of extravaganza.
Friends ended 15 years ago and we deserve some sort of reunion
Right? Wrong? Friends fans are torn over the thought of a reboot, but no more so than the cast themselves since Jennifer Aniston revealed it’s ‘the boys’ scuppering chances to reunite Rachel, Ross, Joey, Chandler, Monica and Phoebe.
But 15 years after Rachel got off the plane, some sort of nod to Friends would be lovely.
