Played by Iceland native Hafthor Júlíus Bjornsson, the Mountain is someone you can’t really miss. When he’s not busy crushing Cersei’s enemies to death, Bjornsson works as a professional strongman and currently has the title of the World’s Strongest Man.
Just lately, Bjornsson explained to Mashable that, after seven seasons, he’s finally going to have a stunt double for the final season of Game of Thrones. The question we have is who the heck can even match the built and appearance of the Mountain? And what was Bjornsson filming in season 8 that he couldn’t do it himself? Perhaps an epic fight scene? Please let it be an epic fight scene!
In seasons past, Bjornsson did all the Mountain’s stunts himself. That comes as no surprise, because he’s clearly built to handle almost anything. We have no details about what changes in the final six episodes. The closest Bjornsson would come to revealing anything was to say that filming season 8 was “certainly the hardest season I’ve filmed for Game Of Thrones.”
Bjornsson promises that season 8 will be amazing, but because his part is smaller than some of the other actors’, Bjornsson doesn’t know as much about the overall plot and storyline of season 8.
I obviously know just a little bit, I don’t know what’s gonna happen in everything, you know I only play a small role, you know, but I’m at least super excited to see the season.
So are we, Hafthor. So are we.
If you’re curious to know how the Mountain maintains his insanely muscular body, let us be the ones to tell you. He stands at 6’9” and consumes about five steaks every day. This is just to keep up with the amount of muscle mass he has. If he thought the eighth season was hard to film, then what about everyone else?
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres Sunday, April 14 on HBO.
