Great explanation. You deserve a wider audience. I do think GoT has more empathetic characters per square inch than any series on television, and they're all in mortal danger much of the time. And some are so multi-faceted: Jaime, Tyrion, Arya, Sandor, even Cersei–these are among many 3-dimensional people, major AND minor. Westworld is also a great show, but there's not one character I *really* like. GRRM and D&D have made us care. So S8's inevitable carnage will leave broken hearts around the world. I suspect S7 plot armor was to give many of them the great moments they've been building to for years.
