Mysaria represents a more calculated, politically strategic approach, while Daemon embodies raw Targaryen fire, impulsiveness, and aggression. The tension between these two forces is shaping how Rhaenyra governs during one of the most critical phases of the war.

Growing paranoia and the burden of rule

D’Arcy also touched on Rhaenyra’s increasing paranoia, describing it as a response to “the threat of something formless.” The constant stress of holding King’s Landing, managing limited resources, and trying to wrest control from the Greens is clearly weighing on the queen.

Showrunner Ryan Condal added context, noting that the differences in philosophy between Rhaenyra’s advisors highlight the immense pressures she faces:

“It just goes to their difference in philosophy, and the stresses on holding their claim here to the city, and trying to take full control over the Greens.”

This internal tug-of-war is forcing Rhaenyra to confront difficult choices. The ruler who once dreamed of a just reign is now being shaped, and perhaps corrupted by the brutal realities of civil war.

Rhaenyra’s “descent into tyranny” is not sudden but gradual, driven by the conflicting advice of those closest to her and the overwhelming demands of leadership.
