This year’s Emmy Awards is following in the footsteps of the Oscars and won’t have a host, this time round.

For the second time in its history the Academy Awards aired, earlier this year, without a host, after comedian Kevin Hart decided to step down from the role.

Now, Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier has revealed the Emmys too won’t have a host, so more time can be spent saying goodbye to shows that have ended, like Game of Thrones, in a fitting tribute.

According to Dailymail.com, Collier said: ‘What’s interesting to me this year is how many shows we’re saying goodbye to. You have to look at the trade-off.

‘If you have a host and an opening number, that’s 15-20 minutes that you don’t have to salute the shows.’

It will be the first time the Emmys has gone without a host since 2003.

News of the decision comes after comedy stars Ken Jeong – known for his roles in Community and the Hangover films and D’Arcy Carden – known for her role in The Good Place – announced the nominees during last month’s nominations ceremony.

Game of Thrones has the most amount of nods at this year’s awards, held on 22 September, after being nominated for a huge 32 nominations.

Among those is Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on the HBO series. Christie admitted she had nominated herself for an Emmy, as a ‘testament to her character’.

The actress told the Los Angeles Times: ‘It’s something I find hard to do, like everyone else, but I would like to be in charge of my own destiny.

‘And I would like to endeavor to give myself opportunities. Particularly when working very hard on something very special and you’ve pushed yourself beyond your limits.’

Her co-stars Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner have also been nominated across various categories.
