The entire episode might have already leaked online, but for those of us waiting to watch a new hour of Game of Thrones this evening, HBO has revealed a new clip from “The Spoils of War.”
The clip is brief, and reveals a rather worried looking Jaime Lannister, flanked by his faithful sidekick Bronn, looking on as the Lannister army forms up.
As the Lannister forces prepare for an attack, we see Jaime and Bronn looking anxiously at something just over the horizon. As seasoned warriors, only one thing seems capable of putting such looks on their faces: dragons.
From the trailer for tonight’s episode, we know Daenerys will make use of her dragons, or at least Drogon. From the moment Dany landed in Westeros, she’s been losing her war of conquest. Initially hesitant to bring her dragons to bear, the situation seems desperate enough that Dany is now forced to unleash her children. Seven save the Lannister forces.
We’ve seen Drogon deal death and destruction in the fighting pits of Meereen, as well as all three of Dany’s dragons burn a fleet of slaver ships. But we’ve never seen the dragons, now fully grown, unleashed on an army. We don’t have a maester’s chain, but we’re guessing it isn’t going to go so well.
“The Spoils of War” might be one of the shortest episodes of the series, but its shaping up to be one of the most memorable. It airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST.
