As Game of Thrones season 7 rages on all around us, let’s check in with what some of the cast members are saying as they make the rounds promoting it.
First, here’s a fun video from Entertainment Weekly where the actors reveal who on the show their characters would most like to kill. Some of the answers are expected (Brienne would kill Littlefinger, Littlefinger would kill Yohn Royce, Davos would “reach for his glock” if he saw Melisandre), and some are not.
Naturally, Kit Harington says that Jon Snow would kill Brienne of Tarth. “He’s just secretly got a grudge against Brienne of Tarth…He hates her. He really really really doesn’t like her at all.” Oh, Kit, you troll, you.
Also, Gwendoline Christie’s laugh is delightful, but that’s pretty well-established.
Next, HBO Nordic posted an interview with Kristofer Hivju about Tormund Giantsbane’s softer, more romantic side. Does he have one?
Hivju makes a good point about wildlings having a different idea of romance than the rest of Westeros. As for any potential relationship with Brienne, she may have to fight Sheila the Bear for the opportunity…assuming she’s even remotely interested in him.
Also, still missing: Tormund’s family. He mentioned his daughters in “Hardhome” — will we ever see them?*
Finally, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) sat down with Flaunt to talk about his 20-plus year acting career, and how being on Game of Thrones took it to the next level. “I can go anywhere in the world now and people know about the show, which is bizarre. I can’t explain it. At the same time – and I say this with gratefulness – it is a job, and I can’t look at it any differently. But, sure, the recognition factor is a lot higher after the show. It’s a different animal, Game of Thrones.”
He also addressed the life of an actor more generally. Take note, aspiring thespians.
I think as you start out as an actor you have to be a little delusional. If you look at the arts and making a living nowadays it’s stacked against you. I always thought I would be able to get a job, to be able to work, that’s one thing, but the whole aspect of being in something as big as Game of Thrones, and of course as rewarding professionally and financially is you can never expect that – it’s mind boggling. The thing is: you never know. The only thing you do is you keep working. One of the toughest things, and one of the most important things as an actor is that you have to keep working.
Outside of Game of Thrones, you’ll soon be able to see Coster-Waldau in Shot Caller, where he plays a white bread kind of guy transformed by experiences in the American prison system.
Shot Caller will be released on August 18. It looks terrific, if you ask me.
