How did Jason Momoa get in shape to play the powerful Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones? Ends up it involved lots of pizza.

Jason Momoa, what is your workout regimen? And how does it involve all that pizza and all those abs?

Speaking with Men’s Health, Momoa revealed something that blew my mind and also made me green with jealousy. Apparently, while preparing to appear as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, Momoa had to gain weight. At that time, he was deemed “too small” for what Khal Drogo was meant to look like, and so he had to start carb-loading. Pizzas, steaks, and heavy-duty weight lifting did the trick.

“Some guys are like genetically ripped and have abs and I don’t,” Momoa said. “I generally don’t have a six-pack, which has been my nemesis forever. I’ve always got a solid four-pack, maybe even a two-pack, and that’s all about diet which is challenging for me.”

I found it better for myself to train for things that I love. For instance, rock climbing has always helped me and inspired me. But for Dune, there was a lot of fight choreography, so generally I worked with my stunt team, learning to do different fights and a lot of cardio.

Anyway, if you think it’s near impossible to get a body like Jason Momoa’s, think again. With some hard work and maybe even the occasional pizza binge, you too can come out of the water looking like this:

Aquaman

Speaking of Momoa, he doesn’t just have abs of steel; he’s also got a heart of gold. After learning of a young boy’s love for Aquaman and his struggle with Pineoblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, Momoa reached out and FaceTimed with the kid.

In their conversation, the young boy, Danny, tells Momoa that he “loves dolphins” and has “never seen one.” Well, Danny’s wish is Momoa’s command; Momoa tells him they’ll have to change that. Could Danny pop up in Aquaman 2, or perhaps ride dolphins with Momoa himself? Knowing Momoa, I wouldn’t rule either of those things out.

Thank you, Jason Momoa, for showing us an example of kindness and generosity.
