Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who starred on Game of Thrones as Jaime Lannister is working with Netflix for his next film. Coster-Waldau will star in a new survival movie alongside Joe Cole from Peaky Blinders. The movie is called Against The Ice, and it’s an adaptation of the Danish novel Two Against The Ice.
According to Deadline, which broke the news, the movie is a passion project for Coster-Waldau. He wrote the script alongside Joe Derrick, adapting the 1955 book.
The movie will be made in English and it will be produced by the Iceland-based company KormĂĄkurâs RVK Studios, which previously worked with Netflix on the show Katla.
Against The Ice tells the true story of a 1909 expedition where Danish captain Ejnar Mikkelsen (Coster-Waldau) and crew member Iver Iversen (Cole) ventured to Greenland to try to disprove the American idea that Greenland was two land masses. After a series of events, Mikkelsen and Iversen trek through the frozen terrain and run into many dangers, including a bear attack and the threat of starvation.
The movie is already finished filming in Iceland and Greeland. Another Game of Thrones alum, Charles Dance, appears in the movie, along with Heida Reed (Poldark). It’s scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2021.
“It combines a lot of themes that excite me: adventure, Greenland, companionship, loyalty and love,” Coster-Waldau said of the movie. “It is an intense exploration of two men, two opposites, trapped in an epic dangerous setting.”
