It’s been nearly five years since Orphan Black ended, and I still assert that it was a hugely underrated show. I mean, Tatiana Maslany played countless versions of her clone character and barely got recognized for it (she walked away with two Emmy noms and one win). And the show itself just never got the love it deserved.

So I am very psyched that AMC is developing an Orphan Black spin-off series, Orphan Black: Echoes. This world has so many stories left in it to tell. It will be a glorious return to one of the most under-appreciated shows of all time.

I know fans of the original flagship series have a lot of questions about the story, cast, and crew, and of course, whether or not Tatiana Maslany will be involved. Details are scarce for the time being, but here is what we know so far.

What will Orphan Black: Echoes be about?

The official description for the new series reads thusly:

Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Sounds thrilling, right?

Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long to learn specifics as the show is set to premiere sometime in 2023, around six years after the original series wrapped. As of now, there have been no cast announcements, but I know we’re all hoping Maslany is involved. Even if it’s just for one episode, I think fans will be ecstatic to see the Clone Club’s original face be a part of the next chapter.

What was Orphan Black about?

For those of you who didn’t watch the original series, the series takes a hard look at the moral and ethical aspects of human cloning. At its heart, Orphan Black is a suspense thriller with some heady sci-fi ideas at its core.

Just thinking back on the original series makes me so excited for the spinoff. I truly hope AMC knocks it out of the park!
