HBO has always wanted to expand the Martinverse, even before Game of Thrones concluded, thus spinoffs have always been a long-term objective. While some have been abandoned, others are now in various stages of production. Based on George R. R. Martin‘s Dunk & Egg novels, a prequel series is presently in development and is coming together quite nicely.

The Hedge Knight is the second Game of Thrones prequel to have been greenlit. HBO recently unveiled the official synopsis of the upcoming series:

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
The Hedge Knight reveals the lead actors
The prelude to Game of Thrones The Dunk and Egg novellas by George R. R. Martin will be adapted for television in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. Recently, HBO revealed information about the key characters on their X channel. Dexter Sol Ansell has been cast as Egg (Aegon Targaryen), and Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall.
