Westeros is heading back to the spotlight. HBO’s next Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will officially unveil its first trailer at New York Comic Con 2025. The series adapts George R.R. Martin’s fan-favorite “Dunk and Egg” novellas, and it’s already generating buzz ahead of its January 2026 premiere.
Martin confirmed the trailer drop in a blog post earlier this week, noting that HBO will showcase the footage during a major panel at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. A teaser is already live, offering a glimpse of the show’s tone and visual style.

George R.R. Martin Confirms Cast and Teaser Details
According to Martin, showrunner Ira Parker will be joined at NYCC by lead actors Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg), both of whom he described as “perfect for their parts.” The teaser hints at a more intimate, character-driven story set a century before the events of Game of Thrones.
The series promises to explore the early Targaryen dynasty through the eyes of Dunk and Egg, a knight and his unlikely squire, navigating politics, honor, and danger in a realm still recovering from civil war.
